With so many of us cooped up with our families, knowing what everyone likes and doesn’t like (and having it on hand!) has become suddenly very important. Having someone bring you an extra of your favorite treat or go the extra mile to set aside your favorite blanket or toy can go a long way to make your day a little easier. And that’s the job our front-line care staff does day in and day out for our resident chimpanzees, they go the extra mile. And it makes all the difference!

This week we are honoring our front-line care staff — many of whom have spent years learning best practices for caring for chimpanzees — either through school or with first hand experience. They all bring 150% dedication to their job.

Ashley has been at Save the Chimps since 2016 and prior to that cared for giraffes, zebras, and hoofstock at Lion Country Safari. She is curator of section 1 which includes Air Force island and Special Needs.
Leigh, who has spent her entire career caring for great apes, runs section 2, which includes Ron’s, Alice’s, and Kiley’s islands and has been caring for our residents since 2017.
Deanna has been at Save the Chimps since 2012. She is our volunteer coordinator and is curator of section 3 including Rufus’, Lou’s, and Doug’s islands.
Skye, who has dedicated her career to the care of captive chimpanzees, has been at Save the Chimps since 2014. She is curator of section 4 which includes Bobby’s, Tanya’s, and Tapioca’s islands.
Torrie, who we introduced to you in yesterday’s email has been at Save the Chimps since 2007, and is curator of section 5 including Freddy’s and Seve’s islands.

They are always advocating on behalf of their chimps, making sure they receive the best. And that’s why we rely on you, our long term supporters to make sure we are able to give our resident chimpanzees all they deserve.

It’s why one of our volunteers and long time supporters, Doug MacWilliam has chosen to honor our front-line care staff via a special fundraiser that can QUADRUPLE the power of your gift during our Board Match Challenge.

We salute Ashley, Leigh, Skye, Deanna, Torrie and the rest of the care staff, as well as the hundreds of you who have participated during this critical time! But we need your help to keep the momentum going!

Help us continue to protect our resident chimpanzees by giving today. Only gifts and pledges made by May 15th will be matched, you can make a real difference in the lives of our residents, won’t you please give now?
