The Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works is scheduled to consider The Captive Primate Safety Act (S.1324) today, June 21, 2012. This act would prohibit the interstate sale and transport of monkeys and apes as pets. Some of Save the Chimps’ resident chimpanzees were former pets[link to Chimps as Pets page on our website. Passage of the Captive Primate Safety Act could help reduce and ultimately eliminate the breeding and sale of chimpanzees and other non-human primates as pets. Please contact your Senator today.
