It’s been 10 years since the Coulston Laboratory in Alamogordo, New
Mexico, closed and Save the Chimps was able to rescue all the chimps. Now they
are comfortably living here in Florida.
Six chimpanzees are excitedly awaiting their turn to journey to Florida: Marc, Kaleb, Late, Tina, Katina, and Kayla are scheduled to depart August 4, and arrive in Florida on Saturday, August 6.
This is an exciting time for Save the Chimps. Our purpose as defined in our mission
statement remains unchanged:
To provide permanent sanctuary for the lifelong care of
chimpanzees rescued from research laboratories,
entertainment and the pet trade.
A historic moment unfolded at Save the Chimps
(STC) on April 30, 2009 when two astronauts visited the
descendants of the original “space chimps” who reside at
the Florida sanctuary.
I am sure this sounds
silly but sometimes I
long for the good old
days when all I was doing
was suing the United
States Air Force on behalf
of the chimpanzees
and trying to raise
enough money to provide
them with a home.
