Foutses Win Chimfunshi Pal Award

Congratulations to our board member Dr. Roger Fouts and wife Debbie for being awarded the Chimfunshi Pal Award!

The Chimfunshi Pal Award is given annually to those who help foster understanding and respect for man's closest relative. The award is named after Pal, the first chimp who came to the Chimpfunshi Wildlife Orphanage in 1983.

Roger and Deborah Fouts earn the award for their groundbreaking studies of chimpanzee communication. They were chosen for their efforts to raise awareness and understanding on behalf of man's closest relative.

The Foutses received the award on December 9, 2000 at Chimfunshi's annual fundraiser held at the Indaba Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Foutses then traveled to Zambia for a brief stay at the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage.

Roger and Deborah are outspoken advocates in the fight to limit biomedical testing on chimpanzees and have played a major role in this organization. We are proud to have the Foutses as both our friends and colleagues.
