The Great Chimpanzee Migration
Save the Chimps needs your help to permanently relocate all of the former Coulston lab chimpanzees to their "Islands in the Sun" in Florida. We can't erase their horrific pasts, but we can provide them with the retirement they deserve.
Relocating one chimpanzee from New Mexico to permanent sanctuary in Florida costs $2,500; this includes the expense of caregiver staff on both ends of the trip, veterinary care, transport vehicle maintenance, fuel costs and the work of bringing a new chimp building on-line in Florida.
The custom-built Save the Chimps trailer will make at least 26 four-thousand mile round trips between New Mexico and Florida (that's equivalent to driving around the Earth four times), carrying 10 chimpanzees each time. The trailer is designed so that each chimp has a window seat and can watch their journey across the United States!
You can sponsor a chimp's trip to Florida by making a personal donation, giving the donation in a friend or family member's name, or organizing a fundraiser at your school, business or community organization. We will provide promotional packets for fundraising purposes upon request. Contact Save the Chimps at info@savethechimps.org for more information.
There are different levels of sponsorship ranging from a simple donation to help sponsor one of the chimp's trips to Florida, to sponsoring an entire trip for the chimpanzee of your choice. If you would like information on sponsoring chimps for a future migration, please contact us at donations@savethechimps.org
89 chimps are in need of sponsorship, you can select any one of these chimps and their funds will be secured, guaranteeing their trip home to sunny Florida!
Because Save the Chimps has to perform introductions and form family groups, the date of each individual migration is yet to be determined. All donors who sponsor a chimp migration in full, will be notified of the chimps' migration date, once it has been determined.
