About Me

Hello! My name is Olida, and I was born in Sierra Leone in approximately 1974. Because I was born in the wild, Save the Chimps doesn’t know my exact birthdate. I was taken to the Coulston Foundation in December 1975 and entered the breeding program when I was eight years old. Between 1983 and 2007, I gave birth to eight babies.

I was rescued by Save the Chimps in 2002. My daughter Marissa and I were introduced into Rufus’ family, where we still live today. Save the Chimps has had the pleasure of knowing several of my daughters and granddaughters, Marissa, Megan, Maya, Stephanie, and Melody. I currently live with three of my daughters on Rufus’ island, Megan, Marissa, and Maya. My daughters are my everything, and I would do anything for them. These days I spend time relaxing with the other older ladies in the group.  Yolanda, Lisa, and I have lived together for many years (in the lab and in the sanctuary) and have been through a lot together. I am a sweet, loving, and caring lady who enjoys the new life that I have been given. At Save the Chimps, I have been given the opportunity to make choices about my life. This is what sanctuary living is all about, and I’m happy to live my life with happiness.
