Hi, my name is:Samantha
Born:12.06.1992
Family:Adopt a Chimp
Mother:Betty        Father:Unknown
Siblings:
Samantha was born December 6, 1992, to parents Betty and Ted.  She was taken from Betty the very next day and placed in the nursery, where she remained for a year and a half.  In May 1994, Samantha was taken from the nursery and put in a cage with a young male her age, Dwight.  She was assigned to a research study before she reached her second birthday, but fortunately for Samantha, the study was cancelled.  For unknown reasons, she was never assigned to another study and escaped the fate of so many other chimps born at The Coulston Foundation:  frequent anesthesia for painful experimental surgeries, toxic doses of experimental medications, or infection with viruses.  Instead, Samantha was anesthetized about twice per year for physicals, and lived in a small group with other chimps her age.

Samantha’s future was secured when Save the Chimps rescued her in 2002.  She will thankfully never know the sorrows of having a child taken from her, or the agony of pain and isolation as a biomedical research subject.

Samantha is a kind, loving, and gentle chimp.  She is always quick with a smile to her greeting her caregivers with enthusiasm every morning.  She is a beloved member of her chimp family, which includes her very first friend, Dwight.  Perhaps it’s because she did not experience the suffering of so many chimps in research, or perhaps it’s just her nature, but Samantha always seems to have a positive outlook on life and spreads cheer to all who know her!
