Like the other males in the his group, Gromek was captured in Africa when he was just a baby for the U.S. Air Force's space program. Gromek is an easygoing guy with very little time for humans. We are pretty much a food delivery system to him but he takes his friends seriously.  The first time we let the chimps into the tunnel that connects the two buildings, Gromek bravely rushed forward into new territory. When he realized Wes was not behind him, Gromek returned to the cages to lead his frightened friend through the tunnel.
