Volunteers Needed

We could not host Chimpathon without the generous help of volunteers.  If you want to be a part of this fun event and help support the chimpanzees, sign up today. From checking in runners as they arrive, to cheering for runners while on the course, to handing out medals to each person who crosses the finish line, there’s something for everyone to do.  We need more than 100 volunteers to help make the the annual Chimpathon event a success!

How to volunteer for Chimpathon 2017:

  • Create an account on our Volunteer Signup system.
  • Use Join Code:  Chimpathon 2017 Volunteer to view the many volunteer opportunities available for Chimpathon.

Things to know:

  • Each volunteer will receive a free Chimpathon Volunteer t-shirt and refreshments.
  • Certain volunteer positions will require advance training – date, time and location to be announced.
  • Save the Chimps will provide community service acknowledgment forms upon request.

Ways to help:

  • Set-up, haul equipment, deliver supplies
    Time & Date: Sunday, April 9, 2017 5 a.m. – 7 a.m.
    Age Requirement: 16 & older
    Training Required: Briefed by Volunteer Coordinator, Monica Naranjo, on race day.
    Location: Saint Lucie County Fairgrounds
    Number of Volunteers Needed: 8
    Responsibility: Placement of items at fairgrounds, erecting tents, banners and signage.
  • Course Marshals
    Time & Date: Sunday, April 9, 2017, 6:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    Age Requirement: 18 & older
    Training Required: Yes, advance training required – date, time, and location to be announced.
    Location: Chimpathon Course
    Number of Volunteers Needed: 15
    Responsibility: Ensure that only registered participants are running, direct vehicle or pedestrian traffic around runners, set up cones, signs & water stations, cheer runners, guide runners in correct direction, remove garbage after race.
  • Water Stations
    Time & Date: Sunday, April 9, 2017, 6:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    Age Requirement: Team Captain must be 18 or older and water distributors must be 10 and older
    Training Required: Yes, four team Captains need to attend pre-briefing for emergency and set up procedures  – date, time, and location to be announced.
    Location: Chimpathon Course
    Number of Volunteers Needed: 40
    Responsibility: Set up station, hand out water, cheer runners, put out cones, cleaning up litter, tearing down station.
  • Race Day Packet Pick-up & Race Day Registration
    Time & Date: Sunday, April 9, 2017, 5:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m.
    Age Requirement: 18 & older
    Training Required: Yes, advance training required – date, time, and location to be announced.
    Location: Saint Lucie County Fairgrounds
    Number of Volunteers Needed: 8
    Responsibility: Distribute race bags to participants, assist Runner’s Depot personnel, check racer’s personal belongings and provide them with a ticket for pickup after race.
  • Finish line
    Time & Date: Sunday, April 9, 2017, 7:00 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    Age Requirement: 18 & older
    Training Required: Briefed by Volunteer Coordinator, Monica Naranjo, on race day.
    Location: Saint Lucie County Fairgrounds
    Number of Volunteers Needed: 6
    Responsibility: Set up mile marks and course signs at fairgrounds, bike path, and along Header Canal Road. Serve refreshments, hand out medals, and cheer racers on.
